Must read for anyone interested in graduate work in Religious Studies
John Stackhouse of Regent College has excellent advice for MA students thinking about going on to do a Ph.D. Much of what he says also applies to students interested in university MA programs. The comments are helpful too. Read the whole thing.
Interesting read. Did you notice the "plug" for his alma mater as a "prestegious" school.
I have had teh oportunity to meet with, talk with and be tought by John Stackhouse. No doubt he is a good scholar, a good writer, and a good Christian. But he's also one of the most arrogant people I have ever met. I'll never forget his first year at Regent when he quibbed about himself (in reference to his predessors -- Grenz and Packer): "There's a new sherrif in town."
All of this is to say, please pursue your accademic career, but do so with humility and grace.
